Natural Wanders · Franschhoek village

Franschhoek wine farms on foot

A storyteller guide walks you four kilometres through vineyards, orchards and country lanes to Mont Rochelle and Mullineux & Leeu, with lunch at La Cotte. Pick it if you'd rather walk between the farms than ride, and want the wines and lunch paid in advance.

Storytelling Walk to Three Wine Farms

About this experience

There is no tram on this one. You meet in front of the Dutch Reformed Church on Franschhoek's main road and walk about four kilometres on vineyard paths, private orchard trails and country lanes. A short tuk-tuk hop covers one stretch. The wines come at Mont Rochelle and at Mullineux & Leeu on Leeu Estates, ten in total, and lunch is outdoors at La Cotte Heritage Farm.

The guide is the point. The listing pitches it as storytelling: the valley's early history, its dreamers and legends, and how the farms grew. The Includes list covers the tastings, local snacks, an al fresco lunch, the guide, gratuities and transport to and from the starting point.

One thing to check: the wine tram operator says Mont Rochelle has moved its tasting venue and restaurant to Miko for now because of construction. Ask Natural Wanders where that tasting takes place. The walking is moderate, and the listing says it is not suitable for children under 10, wheelchair users or people with limited mobility.

Tips before you book

  • Carry water and sun protection, as the listing asks. Summer afternoons in the valley are hot.
  • Ask where the Mont Rochelle tasting happens while its venue is at Miko.
  • Pace the ten wines. The second tasting comes before lunch.
  • Pair it with a wine tram day if you're staying two days in the valley.
